STMA (Shaolin Tigers Martial Arts) Reading have huge success at the ISKA National Muay Thai Championships which took place in Solihull Leisure Centre in Birmingham on Sunday 16th February. They won a total of seven medals as well as two new ISKA British National Muay Thai Junior Champions with Jimmy Stevenson (9-11y -35kg) & Szymon Szalewicz (12-14y -50kg). They both won their semifinal bouts in style with a barrage of fast punches to the body and low kicks to get through to the final where they both defeated their respective opponents. Jimmy beat Sonny Jackson & Szymon defeated Frankie McCarthy (both fighters from Fortitudo Gym) picking up Gold and winning the British National Junior Title belts in style. They also had young Jake Macfarquhar (6-8y -30kg), Will Meechan (12-14y -35kg) & Ion Vijendran (12-14y -55kg) who all won Silver in their respective categories. They all really stepped it up on the day and were unlucky not to win Gold in the finals. Kai Binisevicous (6-8y -23kg) is the youngest STMA Reading’s fighter at just six years old having his first decision bout/tournament winning Bronze in the semi-final. Oliwier Szalewicz (16-17y -62kg Full Contact Muay Thai with Head Contact) also won Bronze in the semifinals. Dan Eden (Head Coach/Owner of STMA Reading) said “there are a few things to work on but overall it was a really good result for our first time at the ISKA Championships, with two new national champions & seven medals won in total! I am very proud of all our junior fighters”.
